Never Ending Learning....

Silent letters are all the rage at our house right now. Carter and Ella Claire love to find words that have silent letters in them. Now, I know most of you think I sit around all day and teach these kids, but I promise I don't...we just talk about anything we are doing. Both kids are always reading road signs, streets, signs, etc while we are driving. One day, Carter saw a sign for Knights Hotel and he was trying to sound it out and we explained that the "k" was silent and you didn't say it. Well, that's all it took. They were both hooked. Now we are always on the lookout for silent letters. One of their books happens to have the work "knob" in it...once again, they were trying to sound it out and we explained about the silent "k"...Carter looks up at Lance and said..."I like to say knob..." He said this making a hard k sound at the beginning...we laughed because it was too cute. They have a puzzle their cousin Scott handed down to them that has all 50 states and their capitals. They love to put in the Iowa piece because Des Moines has TWO silent letters!!!!
We had a good Thanksgiving. The kids had a big feast at school to celebrate the holiday. They made Indian shirts and feather headbands. I got to go and have lunch with them that day. It was a great memory maker! After filling our bellies full we made turkeys with Megan and Elliott out of Oreo cookies! It was an adventure! We also made a gingerbread house later that week and they kids and Lance ate more of the candy than actually made it on the gingerbread house.
The kids are so enjoying all the Christmas decorations and each time a commercial comes on TV, they scream "I want that.." no matter what it is. At their preschool this week, they informed me that their teacher had to call Santa on her cell phone because the class was not listening at story time. Ella Claire said..."and Santa was not happy with us!"
Friday night we headed out to the Billy Graham Library. This was our first time going and it was breathtaking. They had a live nativity scene with camels, donkey's and goats. The kids really enjoyed it and the decorations at the place were unreal.
Saturday morning we had breakfast at their preschool and the plan was to sit on Santa's lap and have their picture made. The kids were so excited, until they actually saw the big man in the red suit. Carter had no part of it....no picture, no nothing! Ella Claire sat on his lap and with her finger in her mouth mumbled that she wanted a barbie.
Today was the 2nd annual cousin's Christmas party. We get together and have a birthday party for Jesus. We made an ornament and then created a nativity scene from stickers and finally decorated their own cupcakes and we sang happy birthday to Jesus. It is only December 7th and I am pooped...it is a busy month, but our favorite time of year!
